National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC)

A five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has struck down the Maharashtra law granting reservation to the Maratha community in admissions and government jobs in the state.

One of the key issues before the court was to examine whether the 1992 landmark ruling in Indra Sawhney v Union of India had to be revisited.

National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) is a constitutional body, the 102nd Constitution Amendment Act, 2018 provided constitutional status to it.

Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortia (INSACOG)

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has been set up by the government in 2020 for genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 across the country.

The consortium involves ten Regional Genome Sequencing Laboratories (RGSLs).

In INSACOG, 10 laboratories were designated in India for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) with the objectives: to ascertain the current status of new variant of SARS COV-2 in the country.

It will help to establish a sentinel surveillance for early detection of genomic variants with public health implication, to determine the genomic variants in the unusual events/trends (super spreader events, high mortality/ morbidity trend areas etc).

Global Innovation Partnership (GIP)

Cabinet gives ex-post facto approval to MoU between India and UK on Global Innovation Partnership (GIP).

GIP will support Indian innovators to scale up their innovations in third countries thereby helping them explore new markets and become self sustainable.

Through seed funding, grants, investments and technical assistance, the Partnership will support Indian entrepreneurs and innovators to test, scale up and take their innovative development solutions to select developing countries.

GIP will also develop an open and inclusive e-market place (E-BAAZAR) for cross border innovation transfer and will focus on results based impact assessment thereby promoting transparency and accountability.
